Terms of service

The deal between you and us, written so you can actually read it. If anything here seems unfair, tell us — we'd rather fix it than hide behind it.

Last updated: 28 September 2026

The short version

  • household.email is early software. It will have rough edges and it may lose the odd thing.
  • Your household's content stays yours. We only use it to run the service for you.
  • The AI can be wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.
  • You can stop using it whenever you like, and delete everything yourself from your account page.

Using household.email

By creating an account or joining a household you're agreeing to these terms. You need to be an adult to set up a household. An adult in the household is responsible for that household's account, including anything the children in it do with the service.

Keep control of the email address you sign in with — we sign you in with codes and links sent to it, so whoever can read that inbox can get into your household.

Early access

household.email is in early access. Features will change, some will disappear, and things will occasionally break. We're not promising any particular feature will exist tomorrow, or any particular level of uptime. It's free while we're in early access; if that changes, we'll tell you well beforehand and you'll never be charged without agreeing to it first.

Your content

Your email, calendar, todos, chores and lists belong to you. You give us permission to store, process and display that content for the sole purpose of running household.email for your household — including sending parts of it to the AI provider described in our privacy policy. That permission ends when you delete the content or your household.

When you forward mail to us or connect a mailbox, you're confirming you're entitled to do that with the messages involved.

What the AI does and doesn't promise

We use AI to read your email and suggest events, deadlines and tasks. It gets things wrong: it can misread a date, miss one entirely, or invent a detail. Suggestions are suggestions — household.email is not a substitute for reading anything that genuinely matters, and we can't be responsible for a missed excursion, appointment or deadline.

Fair use

Please don't:

  • Use household.email to send spam, phishing or anything unlawful.
  • Feed it mail you have no right to read.
  • Try to reach another household's data, or break, overload or probe the service.
  • Resell it, or run someone else's business on a household account.

household.email is for households. If your usage looks like an attack or like abuse of the email address we give you, we may suspend the account to protect everyone else, and we'll explain why.

Connected accounts

When you connect Gmail, iCloud, Google Calendar, Google Tasks or an IMAP mailbox, you're also bound by that provider's own terms, and what they do on their side is out of our hands. You can disconnect any of them from your integrations page at any time.

Paid plans

When paid plans are switched on, they're billed through Stripe on the cycle you choose and renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time and you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for; we don't pro-rate refunds for a period already started, but if something has genuinely gone wrong, email us and we'll sort it out. Prices can change, and we'll give notice before a change affects your renewal.

Stopping

You can stop using household.email whenever you want, and delete your household and its data yourself from your account page — or email hello@household.email and we'll do it for you. We may close an account that breaks these terms, or shut the service down entirely — if we ever do that, we'll give you notice and a way to get your data out first.

No warranty, and the limit of what we owe you

household.email is provided as it is. We don't warrant that it will be available, accurate or free of errors, and you shouldn't use it as the only record of anything you can't afford to lose. Keep your own copy of anything critical.

To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you've paid us in the previous twelve months — which, during early access, is nothing. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

Changes

We'll update the date at the top of this page when these terms change, and email household admins if the change is significant. Carrying on using household.email after that means you accept the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of Australia, and the Australian courts are where any dispute would be dealt with. Before it gets that far, please email us — almost everything is fixable with a conversation.
