Coming from OurHome

OurHome made chores a game for the kids. The grown-ups were never on the scoreboard.

OurHome's own site describes points, rewards, allowance, screen time and parental approval — a system built to motivate children (ourhomeapp.com, checked 13 September 2026). That's a real strength if your problem is a ten-year-old. It's not much help when the actual problem is two adults quietly disagreeing about who does more.

OurHome vs household.email

Everything in the OurHome column comes from OurHome's own published pages, checked 13 September 2026. Where they're better, we've said so.

  OurHome household.email
Price Free. OurHome's site describes no paid tier. Free while we're in early access. When we introduce pricing, waitlist members hear it first.
Ads No ads. No ads.
Who it's built around Children. The site's framing is a gamified task system, points linked to allowance or screen time, goals to work towards, and an adult approval step to "keep younger kids in check". The whole household. Adults and children are both full members, and the invisible work adults do — remembering, booking, chasing — is the problem we started with.
Chore rotation and fairness Genuinely good: tasks can be assigned to one person, to several people, or on a rotating basis, with due dates, repeating schedules, reminders and late penalties. Automatic rotation across the household, plus a completion record — so "whose turn is it" and "who has actually been doing this" both have an answer nobody has to remember.
Email to calendar & todos Not part of the feature set described on ourhomeapp.com. Your household gets its own email address. Forward the school notice or the booking confirmation and we suggest the events and todos inside it. You can also connect Gmail, iCloud, Outlook or most other email accounts.
Shared shopping lists Yes, and well thought through: custom categories, thousands of suggested items, swipe items off in the store, and a list of past purchases to reorder from. Yes. Shared in real time across web and mobile, with labels and tick-off as you shop.
AI assistant Nothing described on ourhomeapp.com. Ask plain-English questions — "what's on this weekend?", "what's left on the shopping list?" — answered from your own household's email, calendar, todos, chores and lists. Rolling out during early access.
Calendar sync An in-app monthly calendar for family events. No sync with Google, Apple or Outlook calendars is described. Two-way sync with Google Calendar, a connection to your iCloud calendar, and a link that puts the household calendar in any calendar app on your phone or computer.
Where you can run it The site offers iOS, Android and a web app. As of 13 September 2026, the App Store and Google Play links published on ourhomeapp.com both return "not found"; the web app at app.ourhomeapp.com still loads. Web today, on any device. iPhone and Android apps are in development.

Why people go looking for an OurHome alternative

Two of these come straight from OurHome's own site. One is just what we found when we clicked the links on it.

The app store links on their own site don't resolve

On 13 September 2026 we followed both download links published on ourhomeapp.com. Apple's lookup service returns no result for the linked iOS app in the US or Australian stores, and the linked Google Play listing returns a 404. The web app still loads, so this isn't the end of the world — but if you're deciding where to keep years of household data, click those links yourself first.

A separately listed app muddies the picture

There is a different iOS app called "OurHome by Elusios", last updated in July 2026, free with a $1.99 premium purchase. We can't confirm whether it's the same product or the same team, so we're not counting it for or against — only flagging it so you're not confused when you search.

Points and rewards don't scale to adults

The whole model is built on motivating children: earn points, hit goals, unlock allowance or screen time, get a parent's approval. Nobody is going to award their partner screen time for booking the dentist. The adult half of the household workload needs a different shape of tool.

It doesn't connect to anything else

Everything has to be typed in by hand. Nothing arrives from your email, and the calendar doesn't sync with the one on your phone — so OurHome ends up as a fourth place to check rather than the place that removes the checking.

In fairness to OurHome

OurHome got a lot right, and it did it for free with no ads, which is more than most. Rotating assignment, late penalties, adult approval and a grocery list that remembers your past purchases are all thoughtful features, and plenty of families genuinely loved it. If it's still working for you and your kids, that's a good reason to stay. This page is for the households who've decided they need something the kids' chore chart was never designed to do.

Nothing to move across. You start fresh — and it's faster.

There's no way to copy your OurHome data over, and honestly you wouldn't want one. Half of what's in there is stale. Instead, your household gets its own email address, and the emails you already receive do the setup for you.

  1. 1

Your household gets an email address

One inbox the whole household shares, instead of school newsletters landing on one person's phone and nobody else's.

  2. 2

Forward the emails you already have

The class newsletter with three dates in it, the swimming term confirmation, the dentist reminder, the party invitation. Forward them across, or connect your Gmail, iCloud, Outlook or most other email accounts and let them arrive on their own.

  3. 3

Your calendar and todo list fill themselves in

We read the dates, times and actions out of each email and suggest them back to you as calendar events and todos. You confirm or dismiss — nothing lands on the family calendar without a human saying yes.

  4. 4

Add the chores once, then stop thinking about them

Chores rotate between the people in your household automatically, so the bins aren't quietly one person's job forever. That part takes about five minutes and it's the last time you'll set it up.

Nothing to export. Nothing to re-type. Your old OurHome account can sit there until you're sure.

We're asking to read your household's mail

That's a lot to ask. Here's what we will and won't do with it.

No ads

There are no ads in household.email and no plans to add them. It's free while we're in early access and paid for by subscriptions after that — never by selling your attention.

We never sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Your household's email, calendar and lists are yours — we're a subscription, not a data business.

Your email never trains an AI model

We use AI to pull dates and tasks out of your mail. The AI companies we use are bound by their terms not to train their models on what we send them. We don't train models on it either.

You can leave whenever you want

Disconnect Gmail or any other email account you've connected, at any time, and we stop reading. When you want to go entirely, there's a delete button on your account page that removes your household and everything stored in it — email, attachments, calendars, todos, chores and lists — for good. No email to write, no waiting on us.

The details are in our privacy policy, written in plain English.

Chores that rotate. For everyone, not just the kids.
